Educational Objective: Acquiring basic knowledge in the field of environmental protection and developing interest in environmental issues from contemporary forms of environmental pollution.

Projected Outcome: Students acquire knowledge to monitor the quality of the environment and affect the reduction of the level of environmental pollution; learn about the importance of an integrated environmental protection system; get acquainted with technical and technological processes and their consequences on the environment; understand the importance of monitoring in environmental protection; get acquainted with professional work in ecological emergencies caused by chemical accidents and technical and technological events.

Course Contents/Structure

Theoretical education: Development of scientific thought on environmental protection (environmental policy and goals), Legislative and institutional framework for environmental management, Technological processes and environment (industry, energy, agriculture, forestry and hunting, transport, urban planning and tourism), Monitoring of environmental protection (monitoring of air quality, monitoring of water quality, monitoring of surface water quality, monitoring of soil quality, monitoring of municipal noise levels, monitoring of waste streams, monitoring of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, monitoring of biodiversity and forests), integrated system of the environmental protection system, Risk management in the environment (chemical accidents and emergencies - technological events).

Practical training: Calculation of individual ecological footprint, simulation of activities of competent state authorities in emergency situations caused by technical and technological disasters, Project task - case study on environmental impact assessment, development of monitoring plans, preparation of documents for the process of obtaining environmental permits.

Teaching Methods: Lectures, exercises, consultations, seminar papers, case studies, independent and group work.
