Educational Objective: Gaining theoretical and practical knowledge of basic institutes and concepts of criminal and criminal procedure law; training for linking specific crimes with general criminal law institutes and proper putting the factual situation under the appropriate legal description; gaining knowledge necessary for proper application of legal powers when undertaking certain measures and actions in the preliminary inquiry and criminal proceedings; understanding the importance of material evidence and methods in the proof procedure.

Projected Outcome: Gained knowledge on general institutes of criminal and criminal procedure law. Habilitation to identify criminal offense, the correct application of criminal law, qualification of criminal events as concrete criminal offenses and identification of subjective and objective circumstances of perpetration. The student is habilitated for proper use of criminal procedure regulations, or adequate execution of criminal procedure actions in the preliminary inquiry and criminal proceeding, as well as the protection of fundamental human rights and freedoms.

Course Contents/Structure

Theoretical education: The notion of criminal law, criminal law act and criminal legislation; Development and sources of criminal law; Basic principles; Time and territorial application of criminal legislation; Term and the basic elements of the criminal offense; Guilt; Special cases of liability in criminal law; Preparation; Attempt; Time and place of crime perpetration; Concurrence of offenses; Accessory; Criminal sanctions; Groups and the most important criminal offences systematized according to object of criminal protection; Conceptive determination of criminal procedure law and criminal procedure; Basic criminal procedure institutes; Preliminary inquiry; The course of the regular first instance procedure; Regular and ancillary remedies; Special criminal proceedings and supporting procedures.

Practical training: Analysis of concrete cases from case-law and simulation of certain actions in criminal proceedings. Evidentiary actions in criminalistics.

Teaching Methods: Lecture, Presentation, Case Study.
