Educational Objective: Understanding the concept of projects management, as specific development forms of police organisation.

Projected Outcome: Training students for practical application of the acquired know-how necessary for project management, project cycle management and the application of project management concepts.

Course Contents/Structure

Theoretical education: 1.management – characteristics and functions, concept and project types, organisation for project managements, project life cycle, project management in the context of organisation, management by means of projects, project-orientated organisation.

2. Challenges of projects management and the necessary skills [strategic analysis (system analysis, SWOT, PESTEL) the application of quantitative methods for project management (Gantt chart, network planning, network chart), the application of IT when managing projects (software solutions for projects management)].

3. Goals and phases of project cycle, initiating the project and risk analysis, project planning and project realisation set-up, realisation, control, evaluation and closing the project.

4. The application of the project management concept: management of project teams (setting-up, models of organisation – structure and functioning), management of the project scope, management of the project quality, time management, management of project expenses, management of project resources, management of project communication, contracting, project logistics, management of project risks.

Practical training: Analysis of project participants, drafting problem tree, drafting objective analysis tree and logistic framework matrix, drafting the matrix of logistic framework, drafting operational plan, drafting the Gantt chart, drafting project proposal.

Drafting and analysis of network diagram, the presentation of possibilities of MSProject in the function of projects management, OpenProj as an answer to free academic communities to MSProject, examples of the application of tools for IT support with projects management.

Teaching Methods: lectures, practicals, lectures of visiting teachers and renowned practice experts, case studies, midterm exams, consultations, written/oral final exam.
