Educational Objective: Acquiring knowledge about elements of information technology that are of special interest for performing police tasks and training to use existing information and communication technology in the police.

Projected Outcome: Ability to use information and communication technologies in police activity. Possibility of active participation in the process of improving the activity by the development of new information and communication technologies.

Course Contents/Structure

Theoretical education: Introduction to Informatics and Computing: Basic Concepts. Specificity of application of personal computers in police. Creation of written documents, processing of statistical data, computer communication; General information about Police: Elements of information (data, notifications, documents, records), creation, storage and exchange of notifications. Organization of information (information and police treatment, types and forms of police information, system of information). Systems of technical support to organized information (telecommunication systems; information systems); Factographic operational information: Communication with information and documentation funds; Use of automated information systems; Factographic notices: perceptions, identification and checks; Factological operational information: Methodological basis for describing and monitoring security phenomena. Evidences and statistics. Creation and interpretation of notifications necessary for planning and organizing police affairs.

Practical training: Practical computer work: text processing, statistical data processing, usage of intranet / internet services, use of police information systems.

Teaching Methods: lecture, modified lecture, presentation, simulation.
