Educational Objective: Students understand basic concepts of crime control policy, the notion, subject, goals and objectives of this academic discipline, its history, development, as well as the criminallaw aspects of crime suppression, significance of prevention and repression as means of combat against crime, and the role of sentencing policy of the courts as an important segment of crime control policy.

Projected Outcome: Students acquired knowledge on importance of crime control policy, as well as on main directions of its development. Students are able torecognize the links between different forms of crime and distinctive means societies employ in order to suppress them, and understand the role of particular state organs, bodies and agencies, as well as other social subjects in overall crime control in the society.

Course Contents/Structure

Theoretical education: Includes following thematic areas: 1. The notion, subject and objectives of crime control policy; 2. Relations with other academic disciplines; 3. History of development of crime control policy; 4. Theoretical conceptions on crime control; 5. Basic principles of crime control policy; 6. Prevention and repression as means of crime suppression; 7. Crime control function of criminal law; 8. Crime control function of judiciary; 9. The importance of sentencing policy of the courts for crime control policy; 10. Perspectives of future development of crime control policy.

Practical training: Discussions on particular problems of crime control policy. Workshop presentation of students’ term works.

Teaching Methods: lecture, modified lecture, presentation.
