Educational Objective: Acquisition of basic knowledge regarding the possibilities of biological weapon use in terrorist attacks, as well as methods used for their detection and processing leading to expert witness testimony in the court of law.

Projected Outcome: Students will be familiarized with the appropriate approaches to the identification of bioterrorist events, weapons used in the attacks, as well as their efficient detection and handling leading to expert witness testimony in the court of law.

Course Contents/Structure

Theoretical education: Types, characteristics and classification of biological weapons; possibilities for the use of biological agents in terrorist attacks; definition and types of bioterrorism; various consequences of biological attacks; feasibility of obtaining biological agents and their production; monitoring and detection of illegal biological agent production; methods for early detection of bioterrorism attacks; methods for detection of traces and objects relevant for bioterrorism attacks, expert witness testimony, international cooperation in bioterrorism.

Practical training: Application of selected methods for the detection and forensic evaluation of biological agents.

Teaching Methods: Lectures, case studies, simulations.
