Purpose of the Curriculum

The purpose of this curriculum is to gain professional title BACHELOR OF CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION. This professional training enables a student to gain status of a police officer at the Ministry of the Interior. By accomplishing the curriculum students are trained to execute more complex work legally and efficiently at higher hierarchical levels. The profession of a criminal investigation is of special social significance in the status of a police officer.

A part of students at the University of Criminal Investigation and Police Studies that completes this curriculum has the possibility to get a job in other state bodies, as well, organisations and non-governmental subjects, where they will apply the acquired knowledge in the field of criminalistics, doing jobs consisting of higher level of complexity.

The purpose of this curriculum has a clearly defined possibility both for advanced training and for following scientific breakthroughs in the field of criminalistics and related disciplines, all for the purpose of achieving quality scientific-educational profile for the execution of police work.

 

Objectives of Curriculum

The objectives of the curriculum of undergraduate academic studies are:
• Gaining educational for quality performance of work and tasks connected with the professional title of BACHELOR OF CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION;
• Being competent for applying scientific methods and academic skills for doing complex work at the Ministry of the Interior and other state bodies, organisations and non-governmental subjects;
• Developing creative skills for recognising, profiling and identifying criminalistics objects (person-culprit of a criminal act, object and clues) and mastering specialist practical skills necessary for doing police work in real criminogenic conditions;
• Gaining abilities and skills for a successful performance of managerial work;
• Mastering legal basis and adopting ethical standards necessary for doing police work or other.

Being competent and having academic skills for a professional title of BACHELOR OF CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION is achieved with the following methods: lectures, modified lectures, presentations, simulations, demonstrations, practical lessons, visualised teaching, specific forms of lessons (operating technical equipment of the police, applying police authorities…) case studies and community service.

 

Competences of Graduated Students

A student who passes all the exams determined by the curriculum of undergraduate academic studies earns higher education and the professional title of BACHELOR OF CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION.

The earned professional title BACHELOR OF CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION enables the competency in exposing the following general abilities:
- realistic assessment of the information and relevant facts on a crime event;
- information and ideas exchange with appropriate experts and institutions in the country and abroad;
- applying contemporary scientific methods and means in preventing and combating crime;
- being trained for lawful and efficient performance of police work;
- respecting standards and ethical norms of the profession;
- permanent training in the profession.

Also a BACHELOR OF CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION possesses the following specific abilities:
- thorough knowledge of criminalistics and forensic disciplines and their application in solving complex criminalistics issues;
- integration of the adopted multidisciplinary knowledge (in the field of legal, natural and other sciences) in performing complex police work;
- justified and correct application of police authorities;
- being trained to use modern technical equipment of the police;
- being trained to manage the organisation units of the Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Serbia and other state bodies, organisation and non-governmental subjects;
- using IT to master knowledge in the field of criminalistics.

 

Student Enrolment

Student enrolment is carried out by careful selection of candidates according to the determined rules and procedure prescribed by the Articles of Association and the Rulebook on Enrolment and Undergraduate Studies of the University of Criminal Investigation and Police Studies. The decision on the number of students for enrolment into the first year of curriculums financed from the budget is passed by the Government on the proposition of the Ministry of the Interior. The decision on the number of the self-financed students for the enrolment into the first year of curriculums is passed by the Council of the University, with a previous consent of the Ministry. Students are accepted into the first year of undergraduate studies at the University based on the Call announced by the University in accordance with the conditions determined by the Articles of Association of the University. The Enrolment Commission, appointed by the rector of the University, carries out the Call for Enrolment, determines and announces the order of the accepted candidates.

The right to enter the Call have the citizens of the Republic of Serbia, and on rare occasions the citizens of other countries with the consent of the Ministry of the Interior which fulfil: the conditions for the enrolment determined by the Law on Higher Education, special law stipulated safety conditions for the acceptance into labour relations into the Ministry of the Interior and special conditions in terms of health, psychophysical and other abilities for performing stipulated work, further determined by the minister of the interior. The Call for Enrolment is announced no later than five months before the beginning of school year and contains the number of students for specific curriculums, enrolment conditions, criteria for determining the order of candidates, the procedure for carrying out the call, ways and deadlines for submitting a complaint to the determined order, as well as tuitionfee for the self-financed students. The basis for determining the order of candidates for the enrolment to undergraduate studies is the general GPA in high school and the results at the exam for checking tendencies and abilities. GPA in high school is expressed on a scale from 16 to 40 and represents a doubled sum of GPA in the first, second, third and fourth school year. The selection of candidates is performed based on health and psychological check-up, morphological status and tendencies and abilities test. The results of the tendencies and abilities test are expressed on a scale from 0 to 60: basic motoric status test 20 points, general knowledge test 20 points and Serbian language and literature test 20 points. Based on the criteria from the call, the University drafts a ranking list of the applicants. The place of the candidates on the ranking list is determined based on the sum of the points of the mentioned addends. The candidates eligible to the undergraduate studies are the ones which are placed on the ranking list within the number of students for the enrolment.
