Educational Objective: Acquiring knowledge of basic elements, features and processes within the system of working environment, estimation of professional risk, principles of protection and health and safety systems at work.

Projected Outcome: Knowledge concerning organization and mutual interactions and interacting effects of organizational and natural systems from the point of view of human health and safety.

Course Contents/Structure
Theoretical education: Methodological grounds, subject of study, relationship with other disciplines from the curriculum. Systemic approach towards the study of the working environment. System characteristics – structure, condition, processes, behavior. Internal and external relationships of the system – analysis using the law on conservation of mass, energy, information. Business system, technological system, working environment system (elements, characteristics, processes, interactions). Human being in the working environment system. System degradation. Concept of professional risk. System risk. System’s reliability, safety, hazards. Incident, accident, injury. Theories of accidents and industrial injuries. Causes of accidents and injuries. Occupational disease. Mechanical hazards related to the use of working equipment; Hazards related to the characteristics of a work place; Hazards concerning the use of electric energy; Detriments occurring when using hazardous materials; Chemical detriments, dust and smoke; Biological detriments; Physical detriments; Detrimental climate effects; Detriments incurring from physical loads; Detriments from psycho-physiological loads.
Practical training: Risk assessment. Methodology used to assess the professional risk. Methods for assessing the risk of technological systems HAZOP (Hazard and Operability). FMEA (Failure Mode And Effects Analysis). Fault tree analysis. Event tree analysis. Human error analysis. Job safety analysis. Deviation analysis. Security function analysis. Analysis of change. Professional job risk management.
