Educational Objective: Acquiring knowledge about the materials that are used for the production of anti-ballistic means, personal protection, protective equipment, transport means and means of transmitting information.

Projected Outcome: Students' ability to characterize materials used to produce modern anti-ballistic means and equipment in order to protect against firearms, explosions and fires, biological and chemical weapons.

Course Contents/Structure

Theoretical education: Introduction; Types of anti-ballistic materials; polymer fibers: high modulus fibers, thermoset fibers, fibers of increased chemical and biological activity, electroconductive fibers, hollow and semiprecious fibers, fibers for accumulation and transmission of energy and information; RE-moisture, aramid moisture, kevlar and "smart" fibers; Technological processing and manufacture of fabrics, panels, protective clothing and footwear, helmets, rods, ropes, and other protective equipment.

Practical training: Analysis and testing of materials from which protective vests, panels, helmets, ropes, glass, etc.; Testing the resistance of fibers to acids, bases and UV radiation; Determination of the coefficient thermal conductivity and spread along the axis of polymeric fiber; Determining the stretching module of the fiber; Analysis of the facts projectiles on protective equipment; Testing the possibility of reducing the severity of individual personal protective equipment.

Teaching Methods: Lecture, presentation, demonstration, simulation, practical training.
