Educational Objective: Understanding the basic characteristics of risk and related concepts, as well as the concept of risk management.

Projected Outcome: Training students for practical application of the acquired know-how necessary for successful risk identification, quantifying risk exposure, drafting risk answer plan, risk treatment, risk monitoring and controlling, as well as the application of contemporary international and national standards for risk assessment. Training to be able to set the crisis events hierarchy.

Course Contents/Structure

Theoretical education:

1. Concept and different risk aspects, basic risk characteristics, risk types, risk and related concepts, the relation of certainty, risk and uncertainty, transformation of risk uncertainty.

2. Risk management process: risk modelling, the principle of risk management, identifying (indicators of) risk, risk analysis and assessment, risk quantification (risk quantification methods), planning the answer to risk, risk treatment, risk monitoring, risk control and benefit of risk management.

3. Crisis risk and catastrophe.

4. Standardisation of risk assessment.

Practical training: Risk as a threat and opportunity, risk probability, risk as expectance, deciding on the conditions of risk certainty and uncertainty, risk matrix, risk and international assessment standards.

Teaching Methods: lectures, practicals, lectures of visiting teachers and renowned practice experts, case studies, midterm exams, consultations, written/oral final exam.
